Rehabilitation
Build back stronger
Rehabilitation is the bridge between treatment and getting back to the things you want to do.
Pain may settle before your strength, mobility, confidence or physical capacity have fully returned. Rehabilitation helps rebuild those qualities progressively, so you're not simply feeling better, but you're becoming better prepared for the demands of everyday life, training and sport.
As an osteopath, personal trainer and soft tissue therapist, I combine clinical assessment with progressive exercise and strength training to help you move from injury or pain back towards normal activity, training and performance.
Who rehabilitation can help
: Returning after injury
Whether you're recovering from a muscle strain, joint injury, tendon problem or a period of reduced activity, rehabilitation can help restore strength, movement and confidence gradually and safely.
: Persistent or recurring pain
When pain keeps returning, simply waiting for it to settle may not be enough. Rehabilitation builds the strength and movement you need to engage in the things you want to do.
: Returning to the gym
If you've been avoiding certain exercises or aren't sure how much you can safely do after an injury, rehabilitation can help you progressively reintroduce loading and rebuild confidence with resistance training.
: Returning to sport
Sport places demands on the body that everyday rehabilitation does not always prepare you for. Your programme can be progressed towards the strength, speed, power, control and conditioning required for your specific activity.
: Building long-term resilience
Rehabilitation doesn't have to stop when symptoms improve. Building strength and physical capacity can help you become more confident and better prepared for the demands of work, training, sport and everyday life.
How rehabilitation works
Rehabilitation built around you
There isn't one standard rehabilitation programme for every injury.
Your exercises will be selected and progressed according to your current ability, symptoms, goals and how your body responds. Where appropriate, rehabilitation can also be combined with osteopathic treatment, allowing hands-on treatment and exercise to form part of the same overall plan.
The aim is not to keep you dependent on hands-on treatment. It's to give you the understanding, confidence and physical capacity to manage your body and return to the activities that matter to you.
01 - Assess
We start by looking at your current symptoms, movement, strength, training history and the activities you're trying to return to.
02 - Restore
Early rehabilitation focuses on restoring comfortable movement, rebuilding confidence and introducing appropriate exercise and loading.
03 - Load
As your tolerance improves, exercises become progressively more challenging to rebuild strength, control and physical capacity.
04 - Return
The final stage is preparing you for the specific demands of your goals - whether that's getting back to normal daily life, the gym or competitive sport.
